The Secret to Happiness
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the blog! Today we're taking a deep dive on my tips for living a happier life as well as how to protect your peace when something happens that you can't control.
One of the biggest tips I have is when you're not feeling good, let yourself feel those emotions. If you push those bad feeling away, that will just make it worse. Something I read recenlty in Hal Elrods miracle equation is the 5 minute rule. This rule is to really feel whatever it is for 5-10 minutes, and then accept whatever made you feel that way and try to move on. After that, it's so important to have a recipe of things that make you feel good that you can do after feeling down. Take a walk, snuggle with your pets, read, watch or favorite show, take a shower, whatever it is for you. If you've used this recipe and you still are upset, accept that you need some time and let yourself work through it for the rest of the day. Cry, sleep whatever you need to do. Then try again the next day. Set an intention for how you want to feel and keep working towards it. Make sure to talk to people you love and rest as needed.
Sometimes bad things happen that are completely out of our control. An example of this was the Omicron variant. The state of the world kept a lot of people away from their families and was a devasting way to start the holidays. In situations like these, this is when the 5 minute rule comes in handy. Because you may not be able to control the situation, but you can control what you make of it. Give yourself some time, and then say to yourself, "I can't change it, but I can accept it. Think about all of the good things that are happening and then as I said earlier, start your routine to get out of a funk. You don't have to always be happy about thing that happen or things you have to do, but one of the best things you can do is try to make peace with yourself and adopt a state of acceptance.
Happiness is an emotion. It's fleating. But this "inner peace" is more of a state of being. If you can harness things that make you happy, and have a state of mind to defalt to when a challenge comes your way, you're golden. Not every day will be good, but the more you try to be intentional with the way you want to feel, it'll be just that little bit better.
